Safety & Security Intern (Paid)
The New York State Bridge Authority (NYSBA) is offering a 12-week, full-time, paid Summer Internship Program designed for motivated individuals interested in exploring careers in public transportation and infrastructure.
Join our team as a Safety & Security Intern and gain hands-on experience supporting the day-to-day operations of a transportation command center. This internship is ideal for students interested in public safety, emergency management, criminal justice, or homeland security who want exposure to real-time monitoring and incident response in a critical infrastructure environment.
The Safety & Security Intern will work alongside experienced professionals to help monitor bridge and roadway activity, support incident response coordination, and contribute to maintaining a safe and secure transportation system. This role provides a unique behind-the-scenes look at how a command center operates and responds to dynamic situations.
Pay Rate and Hours
- $20 per hour
- 40 hours per week
What You’ll Do
- Assist with real-time monitoring of bridge and roadway systems and support incident documentation
- Help organize and coordinate regional knowledge-sharing meetings with first responders
- Conduct research on grants related to training, equipment, and security technology
- Perform an Emerging Technology Scan focused on transportation security (e.g., AI video analytics, drone detection, smart sensors, predictive analytics) and prepare briefing materials
- Support development of a 2027 tabletop exercise schedule for emergency preparedness
- Assist in developing training materials and LMS quizzes for staff
- Provide general administrative and operational support to the Safety & Security team
